Interview #38 - Tonya

Photobucket

Meet absolutely lovely and inspiring girl from USA: Tonya.

Please tell us something about yourself.

I’m just your average brown eyed girl, with a wanderlusting heart. That loves vintage,
creating, and blogging! :)

What is your biggest passion?

Fashion has really been it these last couple of years. I just love being creative...and I’ve been
expressing myself through style most anymore.

When did your fashion adventure begin?

I’ve always been into fashion and style, when I was younger I would clip photos out of
magazines like teen vogue and hang them on my wall. Then in 2010 I discovered Free People and
fell in love; and decided to start my own personal style blog.

Could you describe your personal style? Who/what has the biggest influence on it?

I always find it difficult to label my style. I am definitely influenced by the 60s and 70s, I
love the effortless feel of how things looked then. So in some ways I think my style has a vintage/
bohemian esque to it. But I am always influenced by different things that can alter what I feel like
wearing.

Photobucket

Does USA, where you live, influences your style?

Yes I would say so, other bloggers that live in the USA often inspire me!

Tell us about your favourite designers. Are 'high fashion' and newest trends important for you?

I really love Anna Sui, again because of the bohemian feel to her designs. I also love Emilio
Pucci. The colors and patterns he uses are so funky and fresh but he also creates absolutely
breathtaking, elegant dresses as well. Other than that I should probably start researching high
fashion more!

Photobucket

How often do you shop?

At thrift stores...I shop a lot! But at the mall or other department stores I don’t go as
frequently. Thrifting/Vintage shopping is kind of an addiction because it’s like a treasure hunt when
you go :)

Photobucket

What items are most and least important to you when it comes to your personal style?

Most important: A good pair of boots that will go with anything. And also solid color pieces
that you can mix and match easily.
Least Important: Flip flops...I dislike them A LOT. I would rather wear some cute slip on
sandals :)

Could you describe most precious item in your closet?

I have a Gap dress that’s blue and polka dotted that I wear all the time. It’s so easy to throw
a different colored top over and head out the door. And my vintage, lace up boots from Granny’s
Bootery...you can’t get them off of me! haha

Photobucket

Could you tell us about your own 'fashion rules'?

I don’t really believe in rules when it comes to fashion. So I guess mine would be to keep an
open mind.

Your favourite music/movie/book?

I LOVE the Beatles, as cliche as that might sound but they truly are amazing and a huge
inspiration to me. I love a lot of music from the 60s/70s such as Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Bob
Dylan, CSN, Simon and Garfunkel. Some current bands I like include Fleet Foxes, She & Him, The
Shins, My Morning Jacket, El Ten Eleven...I love music :)
Favorite movie will aways be Titanic!
And favorite book is the Jimi Hendrix Biography, A Room Full of Mirrors.

Your guilty pleasure?

Hahaha probably dumb television shows like Bad Girls Club and Ghost Adventures...they
get so addicting!

What is your favourite free-time activity?

I really like to draw and paint when I get the time. I wish I did it more...
Blogging is obviously another one, thrifting, and hanging with friends/boyfriend!

Photobucket

What do you think about fashion blogs? Do you read them? If yes, which is your favourite one?

Oh yes I read them a lot, I think they are so inspiring. I could never pick a favorite one
though...there are way too many I love.

What is your fashion advice for readers?

Keep things simple.

Blog recommendation #2

Dear readers,

I would love to introduce you to great blog (CLICK HERE!) and here's few words about it, written by lovely owners - Ami and Vivien.

Ami and I (Vivien) were new college graduates of Economics, which was not even close to the fashion design or photography scope, from Bangkok, Thailand. For us, it's hard to define Bangkok in one particular word or phrase as the city is a great mixture of cultural diversity among the result of growing globalisation. Technology moves along to a stance where Thai people still hold great intensity of faith and social values.

It all started two years ago. One day, we discussed to each other that we wanted to start something fun and inspirational as a small project for international audience to observe what young minds like us have to offer from this country. We noticed that there was no proper blog from Thailand that could relate at an international stage that creativity is booming in our hometown. We started a blog, ANDWHATELSEISTHERE, collecting inspirational images and presenting independent fashion design from both our country and other places, and eventually selling our own vintage and custom-made clothes to our customers throughout the world. We view our blog and shop as a spiritual space where we can release our thoughts beyond our corporate lives in the financial industry, where creativity is obviously limited, through our personal photography of places in Thailand and ready-to-wear clothing. Pretty much, the path to productivity is mainly driven from an abstract mind to break through our boring salary routines. We align our inspiration in doing the clothes to the surroundings we are living in. Thailand is the place we know best, and we represent our lifestyle through clothing at affordable prices. We use various materials like cotton mixed with polyester for tailoring our geometric shape of modern pants. Chiffon, lace, and crepes are also our tasty extras.

That's it for now. We are in the works to collaborate more with our own circle of friends to start a bigger online shop carrying a wide array of urban chic design we like. So international shoppers can get to experience nice stuff from this part of the world. Stay tuned!

Interview #37 - Adrian Cano

Photobucket

Meet stylish boy living in London: Adrian.

Please tell us something about yourself.

I'm just a random 22-year-old guy from Spain who's living in London, who loves fashion and to spend time with friends.

What is your biggest passion?

I reckon my biggest passion is art in general. I can't live without it. I need to be listening good music all the time, the same than watching movies, reading books, going to museums, and to the theatre. Without it, I'd just die... hahaha

When did your fashion adventure begin?

My fashion adventure began long, long time ago. My mum used to desing the clothing for me and my sister when we were younger. So, I've been reading fashion magazines and books of tailoring since I learnt to read, basically. Then, when I got older, I was trying to find the clothes I like in the shops, and create my own style.

Could you describe your personal style? Who/what has the biggest influence on it?

That's the most difficult question to ask... I don't know very much what my style is. Sometimes I can dress very informal with a leather jacket, skinny jeans and a hat, and others with a smart skinny suit and tie. Even though, I always get inspired but the old-school trend, the retro style, mainly 50s, 60s and 70s. Everyone in that era dressed so smart, and elegant... !!

Photobucket

Does London, where you live, influences your style?

London influences me in the fact that here is so much easier to find clothes I like. I'm from a tiny village from the South of Spain where there is just one shop, so, basically it was so much difficult to find good things there.

Tell us about your favourite designers. Are 'high fashion' and newest trends important for you?

My favourite brands are Chanel, Ermengildo Zegna and Armani. I love the creations of Dior, Alexander McQueen and David Delfin though. I don't really think trends are important for me, of course, everyone follow the trend since you have to buy the clothes displayed on the market, but a part from that, I consider I've got a quite strong style for quite a long time ago, so, I don't imagine myself change it even if it's not trendy. I lend to show myself through my clothing, not showing the trends with my outfits.

Photobucket

How often do you shop?

Depending on the money I've got! Hahaha... but I don't usually shop very often. Once or twice per month.

What items are most and least important to you when it comes to your personal style?

I think the small details are the most imporant things, I usually wear very basic clothes and then, I put some small details to give them the final touch to look myself better. And the least important... mmmm... its not an item, but I'd say my hair. I never comb my hair.. Yay! lol

Could you describe most precious item in your closet?

Right now, a bag, a friend of mine gave me as a present, inspired and made of fabric of the Second World War. It's just amazing!

Photobucket

Could you tell us about your own 'fashion rules'?

Do never try to hard, and keep it simple.

Your favourite music/movie/book?

I'm really eclectic, even though, I love mainly rock and independent music, but also, classic, folk and eletrco... My favourite movie? Umm... Amelie, The lovers or Artic Circle or Butterfly's tonge. A book? Without any doubt, "The crooked lines of God" by Torcuato Luca de Tena, the original title is Los renglones torcidos de Dios, just fascinating, a novel everyone should read.

Your guilty pleasure?

Chocolate! I can't live without it. Need to eat it every single day... if not, I just get crazy! I've been even woke up at 3am in the morning and gone to the Off License next to my house and buy chocolates in front of my house when I didn't eat it during all day... hahahaha Yeah.. I'm a propper weirdo chocoholic! LOL

Could you tell us about your free time activities?

As I said before, I love going to museums, to the theatre, concerts... but I love just spending hours and hours talking with my friends and laughing about non-sense things and do stupid things without caring what people think about us. Sometimes people are just way to concious about the opinion they'll make to people, instead of having a naive fun.

Photobucket

What do you think about fashion blogs? Do you read them? If yes, which is your favourite one?

Not really.... I have my own blog, but I havent uploaded since ages! I'm not very into blogs, you just show the part of yourself you want to be known... I prefer, if someone wants to know me, to know who I'm in real.

What is your fashion advice for readers?

Be yourself, dont care about what people think, respect people, and how they dress and just, and basically, have fun ;)
